As a Certified Personal Trainer, I often get asked where the best gym in Kona is.
There are many great spots here and my answer really depends on what you are looking for. Are you looking to zone out and lift heavy on your own, or are you looking for expert coaching and community? For me, I actually use two different spots for two very different reasons. Here is my local’s guide to the fitness scene in Kailua-Kona.
When I am off the clock and just want to put my headphones in and train, you will find me at Pacific Island Fitness.
Located right in the heart of the industrial area, this is what I call a "classic" gym. It isn't trying to be a spa; it is a place to do work. It is spacious, open, and has that gritty, old-school cool vibe that makes you want to lift heavier.
Why I Love It:
While Pacific Island Fitness is where I do my solo work, The FitXchange is my professional home.
This is not your typical "big box" gym where you swipe a card and nobody knows your name. The FitXchange is a private training facility focused entirely on functional fitness and personalized results. This is where I train my private clients and lead small group classes.
Why It Is Different:
If you are a self-starter who knows your routine and wants access to a sauna, check out Pacific Island Fitness. They offer day passes for visitors, too.
If you are looking for guidance, someone to check your form, or a structured plan to reach your goals, come see me at The FitXchange.
Hopefully, I will see you at one (or both!) soon.
